Collaboration, community and skills development

In many professional fields, progress does not happen solely through tools, methods or certifications. It emerges above all through community, shared learning and meaningful collaboration. Project management in Portugal is a clear example of this dynamic.
In the fourth edition of QItalks, we welcomed Paulo Sousa, then President of APOGEP – the Portuguese Association for Project Management to reflect on a partnership that now spans more than a decade and has contributed to the growth and recognition of this discipline across the country.
Over the years, the relationship between Quasinfalível and APOGEP has evolved naturally through training initiatives, technical volunteering, participation in international committees, support for professionals at different stages of their careers and the promotion of best practices within organisations.
More than methods: a community that learns and evolves
Project management does not exist in isolation. It lives within organisations that plan, execute and adapt; within teams that adjust to new challenges; within professionals who learn from each other; and within the exchanges that happen both inside and beyond training sessions.
During the conversation, we explored:
- the evolution of APOGEP as a reference entity in the sector
- the role of volunteering and knowledge sharing in professional development
- the value of certification as a sign of competence and commitment
- the shift from traditional models to agile and hybrid approaches
- the impact of continuous learning throughout a professional career
- Portugal’s active participation in international bodies such as IPMA and ISO
At the heart of this relationship lies something simple yet essential: growing together.
Why this partnership matters today
In a context shaped by:
- diverse teams
- ongoing organisational change
- the need to deliver value quickly and with quality
- project management establishes itself as a strategic capability.
Not only for those with “project” in their job title, but for any professional working in a dynamic, uncertain and results-driven environment.
For many organisations, this means developing internal capabilities in planning, communication, decision-making and collaboration.
